Colorado's Department of Regulatory Agencies State Board of Accountancy has released a revised version of its Rules and Regulations. Most of these rules (unless otherwise noted) take effect on July 1, 2013. The new rules cover a broad range of changes and a practitioner would be well served to review them thoroughly. On October 17, 2012, the Board of Accountancy held a public hearing accepting comments on new proposed rules. After review of those comments, the Board of Accountancy held another public hearing on November 16, 2012. Several proposed rules related to certification and education were altered, amended or removed entirely from the new version of the proposals. In December 2012, the State Board of Accountancy announced that it was terminating the rule making process that had previously been in effect. The Board of Accountancy announced that it would be scheduling a new rule making hearing for January 23, 2013. After further hearings, the Board of Accountancy has finalized the new rules for the July 1, 2013 effective date.
The Colorado State Board of Accountancy has adopted the NASBA/AICPA CPE Standards, but does not, itself, pre-approve courses or providers. However, the NASBA does provide a national registry of CPE Sponsors which includes a list of learning providers that are part of the registry. For more information on these providers, visit the NASBA's website, here.
